KCKPD makes arrest in cold case rape where victim was 91 years old

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Early Friday morning the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department arrested a suspect who now faces charges in a 2016 cold case in which a 91 year-old woman was raped in her home.

Kyle Blake States, 11/13/1997, is now charged with rape/sexual intercourse without consent and is being held in Wyandotte County Jail on $200,000 bail.
 
Cold Case Detectives, assisted by US Marshals, attempted to serve the warrant for his arrest at his residence in the 5300 block of Custer shortly before 6 AM. However, when they arrived he barricaded himself in the home. Because it was believed that he was armed, KCKPD Special Operations Unit was deployed to the scene. At approximately 9:15 AM, States exited the home and was taken into custody without further incident.
 
This incident is under investigation by the KCKPD Cold Case Unit. Anyone with information on this case is urged to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). There is nothing further to report at this time.
